TagAdA

License

Under the Apache License Version 2.0

We decided to license the source code of TagAdA under the Apache License Version 2.0. This is indeed an open source license.

Why?

  • First we didn't want to create a new license: we just decided to pick one of the well known open source licenses.
  • We wanted a permissive license, because we want as many people as possible to be able to use TagAdA's code, for whatever reason.
  • For the same reason, we excluded reciprocal licenses; also we believe that if we do a good enough job, people who make enhancements to TagAdA will want to contribute them back upstream anyway.
  • We also excluded dual licensing because our goal with TagAdA is not to make money, and we want to keep the licensing as simple as possible.

Only two well known licenses jumped out with all that: the Apache License Version 2.0, and the BSD License. We picked the Apache License Version 2.0 because we liked the fact that it was more explicit than the BSD License about the obligations people have concerning things like the copyright notice.
